Derry/Londonderry/Donegal Visit to Goodison

Local newspaper, the Londonderry Sentinel (edited by ESCNI member William Allen) has a report on the recent visit to Goodison Park by a Derry/Donegal cross-community group.

As part of their visit, the Everton in the Community charity arranged for the Teenage Kickz children to carry the large banners (bearing Everton's name) around the pitch, before forming a guard of honour as the teams of Everton and Fulham emerged from the players' tunnel to the traditional strains of the Z Cars theme tune.

Budget News

The Government has announced that there will be no rise in Air Passenger Duty (APD) for short flights (under 2,000 miles) for this year. Consequently, the APD for a return flight to Liverpool will remain at £26.

However, the Government has also advised that next year's APD rates will rise in line with inflation from 1st April 2014 ... so, a further increase may well be in the pipeline.

A Fair Tax on Flying

Did you know that each time you take the short flight (~30 minutes) to Goodison, you are now paying £26 in Air Passenger Duty (APD) alone for the return trip? This is the highest example of such a tax in Europe and is particularly punitive to people such as ourselves.

So, click here in order to send an email to your MP that has already been put together by the A Fair Tax on Flying campaign. It will only take you a couple of minutes to complete.

Incidentally, there's also a Facebook page through which you can show your support and leave comments.

Update: It seems that Sammy Wilson (Minister of Finance) isn’t minded to reduce the APD for domestic flights. So, it’s going to be £26 for the 30 minute return flight to Liverpool and £13 for the 8 hour return flight to New York … crazy!

ESCNI Mascot

ESCNI member Thomas Dearden was one of the eleven Supporters Clubs’ mascots to lead the Everton team out at our recent match against Fulham.

As if walking out on to the pitch with Tim Howard wasn’t already good enough for Thomas (10), Everton went on to win 4-0.

Competition Winner

Following his win in a competition to design an Everton Christmas card, ESCNI member Sean Malone’s prize was an invitation to Everton’s training ground, Finch Farm.

Sean (8) had a brilliant day out and, as well as meeting the players, he was presented with a framed copy of his winning design by David Moyes.
