Currently, there are just three hotels, plus a small guesthouse, within walking distance of the airport terminal (helpful for those late night arrivals/early morning departures whenever buses aren’t operating)...

The Hampton by Hilton is located right opposite the airport terminal and would be particularly suitable if you are catching the first plane back home the following morning.

The Gateway Lodge is a modest guesthouse featuring simple ensuite rooms with free WiFi, plus a garden patio. It is located within a short walking distance (12 mins) from the airport terminal.

A longer walk (22 mins) from the airport terminal, is Travelodge. However, it benefits from having the advantage of The New Mersey Shopping Park just a 15 minute walk away. Here there is a new multiscreen cinema, several large chain shops, and plenty of food and drink options.

Appealing particularly to those travelling on a budget, the Kabannas's accommodation ranges from beds in shared dorms to individual rooms.
 

Located in the city centre, on the corner of Stanley Street and Matthew Street, this hostel/hotel has recently been taken over from the Youth Hostel Association. Subsequently, it has almost finished a complete refurbishment that includes a new restaurant/bar.
